Prompts
Never have I Ever.. read a later book in a series – before reading the first book.
I have done this, but never on purpose. I get a lot of romance novels that are part of a series that I don’t always know they are. So, those get read out of order a lot, usually without problems. When I was young, I would read the Sweet Valley High books out of order, but that’s only because I didn’t know any better.
Never have I Ever.. burned a book.
I honestly can’t remember if I’ve ever burned a book. I want to say no, but I’ve done a lot of stupid things in my life, so it is possible, though not likely.
Never have I Ever.. read a book I knew I would hate.
I have done this, but only in high school when I had assigned reading. I remember in vivid detail having to read A Tale of Two Cities and hating every second of it. Though, now that my tastes have changed and I tend to like the classics now, I should give this one another go and see how I feel about it now.
Never have I Ever.. written a fanfiction about my favorite books.
I have not done this. I do enjoy reading a little fanfiction, but I’ve never written any.
Never have I Ever.. loved a book when I was young, yet hated it when I got older.
I have never. When I think back on books I loved when I was younger, I only have fond memories. There were books I didn’t like then, but might like now, but not the other way around.
Never have I Ever.. dressed up as one of my favorite literary characters.
I’ve never dressed up as any particular character, but I always dressed in my Hufflepuff finery on Halloween. We don’t get trick or treaters where we live now so it isn’t much fun to dress up anymore.
Never have I Ever.. hated a book by an author I love.
I have hated a book from an author I love. I adore Stephenie Meyer from the Twilight series, but I couldn’t stand her novel The Host. I thought it was awful.
Never have I Ever.. gone into a bookstore to buy one book and come out with many more.
I think the more appropriate answer is whether you have ever gone into a bookstore and left with only one book. So, my answer to this is that I probably have only walked out with one book, but I can’t remember when. I always have at least two.
Never have I Ever.. read the ending of a book before reading the beginning.
I don’t think I have ever done this, but my youngest won’t read a book at all without reading the last chapter first. It bugs the ever loving crap out of me!
Never have I Ever.. read a book without the dust cover.
I always read a book without the dust cover. I don’t like the way they flap around my hands when reading, so I always take them off. Occasionally, I will put it back on when I am done reading. I have many naked hardbacks.
Never have I Ever.. skim-read nearly half the book.
Oh yes, I have definitely done this. It usually happens when a book is somewhat boring but I’m too invested in seeing how it ends that I will skim read until I find out. I also used to do this all the time in high school. It was better than having to read that which was forced on us. (I am not a proponent of assigned reading. Can you tell?)
Never have I Ever.. pretended to have read a book that I haven’t.
I am ashamed to say that I have done this. About 12 years ago, I met a lot of well-read people and I had spent my life reading only popular books. I felt stupid for not having read all these books that everyone seemed to know by heart that I hadn’t even heard of. So, I pretended to have read some of the books they were discussing. But, that was my turning point. I started reading these books and realized how much great stuff was out there. It’s when I found my love of Jane Austen, and The Hobbit. I still haven’t read The Lord of the Rings series yet, but one day I will.
Never have I Ever.. seen the movie before reading the book.
I definitely have. Most of the time I didn’t know there was a book, like with Forrest Gump. But, mostly I try to read the book first these days. However, I did watch the entirety of the first season of Bridgerton which spurred me on to read the series. I am on the last book now.
Never have I Ever.. had a book boyfriend.
Oh Geez! I think every book I read gives me a new book boy/girlfriend. I fall desperately in love with the main characters from nearly every book. Occasionally, I will fall in love with the villain. I am deeply emotional about my books.
Never have I Ever.. read a history book or anthropology book for fun.
Is this your way of saying that everyone doesn’t read history and anthropology books for fun? I love anything to do with history and read anything I can get my hands on that deals with history.
Never have I Ever.. picked up a book based on the cover alone.
I almost always choose a book by the cover. The cover gets me to pick up the book, then I read the synopsis. After that I decide whether it is something that I want to read. Sometimes it’s a hit and other times it’s not, but the cover is what draws me every time.
Never have I Ever.. bought multiple books in a series without having started it.
Hmmm…I don’t think so. I might buy the whole series after I’ve read the first one. Or, I might even buy the first few in a series that has been recommended to me, but I really can’t remember ever buying books in a series that I haven’t read at least the first book.
Never have I Ever.. kept reading a series even if I didn’t love the first book.
I have done this…once. I read the Fifty Shades of Grey series even though I despised the first book. But, as it is a Twilight rip-off, I wanted to keep going to see how similar they were throughout. But, never with any others. If I don’t like the first book, I see no reason to keep going.
Never have I Ever.. kept buying books even though my bookshelves are full of unread books.
Oh yes, I books at every opportunity. And yes, there are a good hundred books on my physical shelves that have not been read yet. I won’t even admit to how many are in my Kindle.
Never have I Ever…bought/read a book because of a booktuber/book blogger.
Yep, I am guilty of this one. My friends over in The Write Reads gang influence my choices at every turn. They all love so many different things and I have a real bad case of FOMO so I pick up a lot of what they are reading. Usually, it is a bunch of us reading them together.
Never have I Ever…given a book as a shower, birthday, Christmas, graduation, or wedding gift.
Books are my favorite gifts. My second daughter asked for books to build my grandson’s library in lieu of cards at her baby shower. I love to give books for anything.
My New Prompt
Never Have I Ever.. thrown away or donated a book you really wanted to keep?
Unfortunately, I do this all the time. I have my keep and donate piles too close together and then mistake which ones go where. So, yep, I have done this.

So fun Kimberly! ??
Thanks lovely!
Lol! Great (and honest) answers Kimberly. I’ve found myself skim-reading many an ARC ?
I’ve done that a time or two as well. ?
That’s an impressive supply of unread books, you’ll never be short of options, that’s great ?
Thank you!
