The Half-Light Blurb
Will Kai be able to unlock his potential—and can he handle the risks?
Prince Kai’s life was transformed the moment he witnessed the death of his mother—killed by a dragon in the palace garden right in front of him. After years of sheltered isolation, Kai is desperate to find his way in a changing world. So he sheds his royal detail by venturing out of the confines of Diu city alone.
When two people from his mother’s past come to test him, they discover Kai is more than he should be. The catalyst of bonding with a Nebean black wolf sparks an awakening in Kai—an awakening that should have been impossible. Now they must teach Kai how to control and hide his gifts, at the great risk of exposing their magical civilization to an unfriendly world.
Mentored by his cousin, the newly appointed Master General Cazier, and the spy Riome, Kai must find a way to navigate the challenges of being a teenager, the burdens of being a prince, and the secret of being a Half-Light.
I want to start by saying that The Half-Light is exceptional. Angela Lombardo has done an amazing job with this story. I am so glad that this is the first in a series. There is so much more I need to know.
Kai is like no other character I’ve ever read. His Katori roots enthrall me. The world that Angela built for this series is wondrous and scary. I love how detailed the description of the setting is. I felt as though I were swimming in the lake or walking through the city proper, right alongside Kai and Drew.
The dragons are fascinating as well. It is interesting to look at them as you would see people. There are some good and some bad. However, I feel that the “bad” dragon has something more to do with the series. I am excited to find out how that plays out in the long run.
Queen Nola is frightening. I got a bad vibe from her almost immediately. But as the story went on, I got to see just what she was about. I am keen to find out how her story goes. I want the King to be the fun-loving guy he is when she isn’t around.
I am happy to award The Half-Light a full 5 out of 5 stars. I can’t wait for more!
About the Author – A.D. Lombardo
Angela Lombardo was born in Akron, Ohio, raised on a farm by her grandparents who sacrificed a great deal to give her and her brother a good life. Public school came as a complete culture shock after attending a small Christian private school.
She loves animals, the country life and is still a tomboy at heart. You can take her off the bobcat, but you’ll never get her to enjoy the city. She dabbled in playing the piano, playing sports and fishing.
Her love of comics started with Spiderman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. Being a Trekkie and a BMX rider, Angela did not have many girlfriends or time for makeup. She spent most of her time with her older brother crashing dirt bikes and three-wheelers. As a teenager, her grandmother sent her to Barbizon to teach her how to be a proper girl. She is fortunate she had a son.
Angela started writing The Half-Light in fall 2017 after a sleepless night gave her pause about the mother in a made-up story she created for her son. She spent the weekend solving the mystery of where the mother went.
This sounds really interesting! I’ll add it to my list. I love a good YA fantasy!
It’s really good. I read it in one day I was so into it.
