I was planning a review today, but as I haven’t finished the book yet, I thought it would be fun to participate in the Naughty or Nice Book Tag.
The lovely Ellie from Read to Ramble tagged me for this tag and the general consensus is that Jenn from Jenniely created this tag originally!
The idea of this tag is that you answer the 20 questions. For every YES answer, you get a point. If you have more than 10 yeses, you are on Santa’s naughty list.
Questions
1. Received an ARC and not reviewed it
Yes
I received a physical ARC last year for a book that I was really looking forward to but I got too overwhelmed to finish it so it is sitting on the shelf glaring at me.
2. Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley
Yes
I think I am sitting at 55% right now. But, I have a few to post this week and my score should go up a bit.
3. Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did).
No
I don’t post on Goodreads until after I have posted the book on my blog. Occasionally I will leave stars only if it is a book I don’t plan to review.
4. Folded down the page of a book
Yes
My teenage self used to fold the pages down all the time. Thank goodness I have grown out of that stage. Now I use old receipts or other random things I have laying around to mark my page.
5. Accidentally spilled on a book
Yes
I have spilt an entire glass of iced tea on a library book. I was mortified. I also have a coffee ring on the cover of one of my books but that wasn’t my spill, that was me negligently leaving my coffee sitting on a book while my kiddos ran around the house causing the liquid to slosh over the edges.
6. DNF a book this year
No
It may have taken me longer than I like to read, but I have not DNFed any books this year.
7. Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it
Yes
I have several collector’s editions of the Harry Potter series that I bought for the prettiness of them, but when I read, I read the old standbys that aren’t so pretty.
8. Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)
Yes
Who hasn’t?! I am constantly reading when I should be doing something else.
9. Skim read a book
Yes
I used to do this all the time in high school when I was doing required reading assignments. I hated reading what I was told to read and thus have missed out on many classics. Though, admittedly, I wouldn’t have appreciated them then anyway.
10. Completely missed your Goodreads goal
Yes
I didn’t hit my goal last year, and I think that was the first time I made a goal. This year my goal is 100 and I am at 95, so I am pretty sure I will hit it this year.
11. Borrowed a book and not returned it to the library
Yes
When I was in my twenties I borrowed a whole stack of books from the library and then forgot about them. I found them about a year later when I was unpacking boxes after a move.
12. Broke a book buying ban
No
I don’t put myself on buying bans because for the most part I don’t have the money to spend on books in the first place so if I do have any extra money, I by books with a smile on my face.
13. Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about
No
I write an outline of every book I read right after I read it so that I can come back to it when I am ready to write the review. Though lately, I am writing my review the morning after I finish the book, so not much time to forget.
14. Wrote in a book you were reading
Yes
I have done this many times in school, but the first and only book I ever wrote in that was not for school was The Well Trained Mind where I took notes about how to use the classical method of learning to use in our homeschool studies.
15. Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads
Yes
I have been much better about this lately, but for a long time I didn’t add any of my books to Goodreads and even now, I use Goodreads mostly as a way to promote authors, but if I am reading something mostly mainstream I will only leave stars. The reason for doing it that way is so they count toward my reading goal for the year, otherwise i wouldn’t bother.
16. Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend
No
I don’t usually borrow books, so I don’t have the opportunity to not return it. Though, i do borrow books from my daughter and I always return them.
17. Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book
No
I’m not sure I have ever been asked to borrow a book by anyone other than my daughter and we trade books all the time.
18. Broke the spine of someone else’s book
No
Definitely not. I won’t break the spine in my books, I would never be so careless as to do so to someone else’s book, not even a library book.
19. Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up making it more damaged
Yes
All of my original Harry Potter books have had their jackets taken off and they all have been ruined. But, those books are so well loved that the jackets would probably have been damaged by my hands at some point anyway.
20. Sat on a book accidentally
Yes
I do this about 6 times a day between the Kindle or a hard copy. It is inevitable at my house.
Final Score
13/20
I Tag…
YOU!
I hope that everyone gets a chance to do this tag. It was so much fun and I have had a great time learning more about all of you who have already taken part this year. I hope you share your results with me if you do decide to do this tag.
