Synopsis from Goodreads:
True love doesn’t die – it devours. Just outside the sleepy town of Dreury, a mysterious cult known as The Shared Heart has planted its stakes. Its followers are numerous. More join every day. Those who are lost and suffering seem to be drawn to it; a home for the broken. When Jacob finds himself in need of such a home, he abandons his dead name and gives himself over to the will of The Great Collector. However, love refuses to let Jacob go so easily; his ex-fiancé, Nina, kidnaps him in the hopes that he can be deprogrammed. As she attempts to return Jacob to the life they once had, a terrible fear creeps in: what if there isn’t enough of her Jacob left? When The Great Collector learns of his missing follower, the true nature of The Shared Heart is unleashed. Nina discovers what Jacob already knows: that hidden behind the warm songs and soaring bonfires is a terrifying and ancient secret; one that lives and breathes and hungers. And it’s coming for them.Goodreads
My Review of Follow Him:
Craig Stewart offers a disturbing and twisted tale of gore in his latest novel, Follow Him. I found myself horrified yet unable to look away and ended up reading it in one night.
I’m not sure where to begin in my review of this book. I was starting to open myself up to the thought that I might like the horror genre, but upon reading this one, I know that I am not ready to tackle any more for a while.
I am going to admit that I hated this novel. However, my opinion can not take away the genius that is behind it. Craig Stewart is a twisted individual, but from that, we get books like this. The writing is impeccable. While all I read was what seemed like gore for the sheer sake of gore, the underlying theme is brilliant.
However, as I said in my intro paragraph, I absolutely could not look away from the words. I was on the brink of being sick yet could not tear my eyes away from the glowing tablet in my hand. I can’t remember the last time a book hooked me in this way, and never with a book that I despised. So, that should be an indicator of the strength of this novel.
I can only offer Follow Him a full 5 out of 5 stars, regardless of my strong desire to burn it to the ground.
Craig Stewart, you have outdone yourself, and I give you great props.
I want to thank the Hellbound Books, Craig Stewart, and Blackthorn Book Tours for providing me with a copy of Follow Him in exchange for an honest review.
